The first race if 2019 has officially come and gone. And boy was it an amazing race to kick off the season.
Dean Wilson, a full on privateer, riding completely out of his own pocket, shot out to an early lead, leading the first 15 or so minutes of the race. Eventually though, fatigue got the best of him, and he slowly got passed by a few riders, eventually landing him in 4th where he finished the race. A very respectable finish for the veteran.
2018 champion Jason Anderson was nowhere to be seen, finishing a disappointing mid pack. Series favorite Eli Tomac had a rough start, but managed to squeak out a 3rd place.
The biggest story of 2018 has rolled over to 2019 with Ken Roczen taking a very well fought 2nd place, coming from around mid pack for that finish. And none other than Justin Barcia taking the top spot of the podium!! His first supercross win in 6 years!! Also coming back from a mid pack start, he fought the rainy conditions and just flat out beat everyone on the track. A fantastic showing from a guy everyone expected to be winning since he came to the 450 class, but giving more disappointing results than anything.
It was a really fantastic race, really living up to the hype of the first race of the season. Of course it’s the first race, and anything can and will happen before the last race of the season, but what a great start. It will be very interesting to watch and see which riders and be consistent and who will end up on top at the end of the season!
